Halosil’s Proprietary Formula: The Perfect Potion Against Resistant HAIs
The direct threat that HAIs pose to patients, providers and personnel is formidable and must be taken seriously. However, even more serious is the threat of HAIs’ growing resistance to antibiotics, which has the potential to devastate the efficacy of antibiotics and compromise life-saving medical treatments.
Each year in the United States, at least two million people become infected with bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics. In the face of growing resistance, it is essential that the entire healthcare industry does what it can to stop the phenomenon from worsening. For doctors, this means prescribing antibiotics appropriately. For patients, this means taking all of the antibiotics that have been prescribed. And for infection control professionals, this means selecting a whole room disinfection system that safeguards against resistance.
It is important to remember that not all whole room disinfection systems are created equal, nor are all disinfection formulas. Following are some characteristics of our proprietary formula here at Halosil:
- More Than Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide has long been used as a bacterial killing agent. The Halosil formula pairs hydrogen peroxide with other proprietary raw materials, effectively converting it into an entirely new material. While basic hydrogen peroxide had limited killing mechanisms, efficacy and stability; Halosil is a multi-mechanistic, highly stable, broad-spectrum disinfection product. - Multiple Mechanisms of Killing Action
The Halosil formula brings together the long-leveraged elements of hydrogen peroxide and ionic silver. Silver on its own is recognized as a broad spectrum biocide. When formulated with the extreme oxidizing potential of hydrogen peroxide, the effectiveness of the solution exceeds the sum of all the parts. The interaction of the silver ions and the hydrogen peroxide creates more reactive oxygen species (ROS) than either of the two active ingredients alone. This intrinsic synergy increases the potency of these two components as a complex mixture with a vast number of killing mechanisms. - A Proprietary Stabilization Process
The second powerful element of the Halosil formula is its unique stabilization process, which results in a radical fluid architecture that is capable of destroying a broad spectrum of microorganisms—from spores to pathogenic bacteria, to viruses and fungi. Halosil’s formula destroys microorganisms by disrupting the cell membrane, binding to the enzymes causing denaturation, and binding to the DNA to stop replication by working synergistically in a chemically stable solution. This stability guarantees a long shelf life of two years, easy handling in the HaloFogger and complete efficacy during application. - It’s All in the Application
Halosil’s proprietary formula is applied through a unique dry fogging technology that is EPA-validated to achieve a 6-log kill rate against harmful and highly resistant C. difficile spores. As a critical element that impacts efficacy, the application technology is as important as the formula itself.
